About Marshall
Marshall Benbow has served on InterVarsity staff 1997. He and Diane were married in July of 2000, their faithful dog Joe entered the picture in 2001, and their beautiful daughters Eliza and Psalter were born in July of 2003 and Oct of 2004, and son Jacob arrived in January of 2007.
Marshall loves college students and helping them understand their identity in Christ and how the Gospel is transformational in our lives. He especially enjoys helping people who don’t believe in Christ explore Christianity. From 1997 to 2005, he did this as a campus staff at UNC Greensboro, and then in 2005 he accepted the position of Associate Area Director for Western Carolinas ( this just means he supervises three IV staff).
He and Diane also have a great love for the materially poor of the world, and together they have started an after-school tutoring program in their neighborhood. In the summer of 2004 they launched GUPY (the Greensboro Urban Project Y’all), a summer urban internship and spring break service project. The GUPY experience is a way for students to experience the Gospel more deeply, and learn how to extend that love of Jesus to others across racial, cultural, and class lines.
In his free time, Marshall has a blast playing with his daughters and son and spending time with Diane. He also loves the UNC Tar Heels. He love to play disc golf , watch NASCAR races, play basketball, write on his blog, and watch movies (the end of “Rudy” makes him cry every time).
